Derek the Deadly was once a warlord who ruled over Oraknev with an iron fist. He was planning to conquer the rest of Korovia and make himself king. When he was permanently blinded by a negative energy elemental, not even his ring of regeneration could heal the damage done by the elemental. Without his sight, his own soldiers turned against him and he was overthrown.

Since then Derek has been living a life in the shadows. He now runs a powerful but highly secretive group of assassins and mercenaries known as the “Obsidian Dragons”. They have complicated ties to both the Thieves Guild and the Assassins Guild. They are known to be on the lookout for powerful artifacts.

Despite the loss of his eyes, Derek nevertheless is a terrific foe. He has honed his blind-fighting abilities and tailored his spells so that during combat he can use his superior blind-fighting abilities against a foe that cannot see during an obscuring mist or darkness spell.

In his youth, Derek had been a monk briefly but lacked the concentration and ethics to continue in that role. Thus he embarked on a crusade of darkness and death, pursuing dreams of absolute power. He still pursues those goals, but now does so from the shadows.
